Gravity’s Arc
[Oil, Stabilo Encaustic Wax]

The classical bust of Michelangelo’s David, as the starting point is placed against
the organic cirles of fruit as their configurations arc throughout the piece. My intent,
once again, was to force the viewer to accept the geometric configuration (forever approaching
infinity) coupled with organic forms (once removed, i.e. the plaster bust) and jarring color
juxtaposition into the whole of the picture plane. To quote Plato, “...all mathematical forms
have a primary subsistence in the soul...harmonic ratios prior to things harmonized; and
invisible circles prior to the bodies that are moved in a circle.” As the ubiquitous “binary box”
remains inscrutably in the upper right.
